4 Tips for Installing EasyWater Next to a Wall

Messy pipe wrap

Homes aren’t always plumbed exactly as we’d like them to be, and sometimes we’ll speak with a customer who has little or no room to install EasyWater on a pipe that runs immediately parallel to a wall. If you’re finding yourself in a situation where you only have an inch or two of space between the pipe and the wall, please be advised that it’s not a good idea to remove the signal wire from the spool.  You’ll end up with a tangle of wire! Instead, try one of these tips below.

Use a shim to pull the pipe back from the wall.

1. Use a shim

Push the shim or wedge between the pipe and the wall, and pull the pipe gently away from the wall. Pass the spool of wire through the space created by the shim. Move the shim as necessary, until the wrap is complete.

2. Transfer the signal wire to a paint stirrer

Uncoil the wire from its original spool while simultaneously winding it around a long thin object such as a paint stirrer or ruler. Distributing the wire over the longer area will reduce the bulk, and the new “spool” will be much easier to pass behind the pipe.

3. Cut out the section of pipe

Cut out a section of the pipe.

If you’re really stuck, do what one customer did and cut out the section of pipe! Wrap the section of the pipe, then re-install when you’re done. Make sure to turn off your water supply first, and have the materials on hand to re-install the pipe when you’re done wrapping.

4. Work with a professional

This is one of those perfect situations where a dealer can really help, by either finding an alternative area to install or doing the hard work for you.
